About

Glamumous is a site for realistic “yummy-mums”: parents who want to look and feel good without breaking the bank to do so! Here you will find a range of articles and posts, from advice about the cheapest places to buy your designer goodies, to miscellaneous ramblings of family life; tried and tested parenting tips, book reviews, “mom-trepreneur” features and everything in-between. Originally, Glamumous began as a personal blog in which I mused about the various goings on in my own life. More recently I have decided to give Glamumous a makeover and turn this blog into what it was originally intended to be: a magazine-style site for real mums, not simply a hash of stick-thin models in designer outfits which cost a year’s worth of earnings to afford! When you know where to look and where to go, there is a lot of fun to be had in parenthood, and we can all look glamumous while we’re doing it!

Why “Glamumous”?

The name of this site is actually what inspired it! My youngest daughter was beginning to speak when she heard Fergie’s “Glamorous” on the radio and tried to sing along. But rather than saying “glamorous”, she kept singing “gla-mum-ous” instead. The word stuck in my head for days until I was finally inspired to start blogging again. And the name was an obvious choice… I liked that it was a combination of “glam”, “mum” and “us”: glamour, parenting and family, the three values on which this blog is based.

Who hosts the site?

Both the domain name and hosting were provided by GoDaddy, a company I have grown to love and trust. Until recently, this blog was hosted by Blogger (and was a Blogger blog), though I recently became a Wordpress convert, and decided to purchase my own hosting account.

Blog platform and theme

Glamumous is a Wordpress powered blog. Previously I was hosted with Blogger, and while this is a great and useful blog host, I felt that the features I most wanted for Glamumous simply weren’t available to me. So when a blogging friend introduced me to Justin Tadlock’s excellent Visionary theme, I was inspired to make the switch. After some customization to the colors and fonts, I made the design my own, though all credit for the coding must go to Justin (as I know so little about PHP!).

What is the “community” section about?

I’m a British mommy blogger, and so far have found few ways of connecting with other mommies in the UK. So I am currently developing tools to establish a community where British mommies can connect with each other, read each other’s blogs and a have a general chit-chat over a cup of tea… You get the idea!

…And the “directory?

This will eventually feature useful links and shopping details of the sites, shops and places I mention in this blog. Only “Glamumous approved” sites, shops and places will get their listings featured here to ensure my readers can easily access listings which are value for money, fun and ultimately family-friendly.

Who writes Glamumous?

For now, it’s just me: Amanda, though as the scope of this site expands I may well introduce some guests who will post here too. You can read all about me on my profile page, which includes some photos and information about the other sites I write too.

I have a question/suggestion/problem. How do I get in touch?

Comments are enabled for posts of you’d like to leave a small message on the blog itself. Alternatively you can email me directly from the contact page, or send an email to amanda [at] glamumous [dot] com. I do read my comments and messages daily, and will respond as soon as I can.
